Set Up a Basic Mob Farm with Spikes

Choose Your Spike Tier

Start with Stone or Iron spikes for your first farm. Stone spikes are cheap to craft and kill mobs efficiently, though they won't give you experience. Iron spikes cost more but drop normal loot without experience—useful if you want resources without the XP clutter.

Build Your Farm Layout

1. Create a mob spawning platform or funnel mobs into a kill chamber

2. Place spikes on the ground or walls where mobs will land or walk

3. Space spikes close enough that mobs cannot avoid them

4. Add water channels or fall damage to push mobs toward spike clusters

Collect Your Drops

Place hoppers and chests beneath or around your spike area to automatically collect drops. Stone spikes won't produce loot, so you're mainly farming experience or just clearing mobs. Iron spikes will drop items like wool, bones, and mob-specific loot.

Upgrade Later

Once you have resources, upgrade to Diamond or Netherite spikes for full player-like drops including experience. These are worth the investment for long-term farms.
