How to Get and Use Glowsticks for Cave Lighting

Glowsticks are Spelunkery's answer to torches — throwable or placeable light sources that come in multiple colors. They are one of the most useful early items for caving because they light up areas without you having to walk right up to a wall.

Crafting the basics

Glowsticks come in colors including Black, Blue, and Brown. The colored variants are made from a base glowstick plus a dye, so once you have one color working you can branch into the rest. You will need the base ingredients from the mod's underground materials, so mine pebbles and ore variants first to stock up.

Using them while caving

1. Keep a stack in your offhand or hotbar so you can throw them without switching tools.

2. Toss one down a dark shaft before descending — it reveals mobs and drops.

3. Place them along your route as breadcrumbs so you can find your way back.

4. Use different colors to mark different things: one color for the path home, another for unexplored branches.

Glowsticks are cheap enough to spam, so do not hoard them. A well-lit cave is a safe cave, and colored light makes navigation far easier than a wall of identical torches.
