Craft Your First Custom Shield

Gather Materials

Custom shields in Spartan Shields require specific materials depending on the shield type. Start by collecting basic crafting ingredients—wood, stone, or modded ores like copper, tin, bronze, and steel are common choices. Check your inventory for what's available.

Use the Crafting Table

Open a crafting table and look for shield recipes in your crafting menu. Spartan Shields recipes follow standard Minecraft crafting patterns. Arrange your materials according to the recipe layout—typically a shield shape using your chosen material and a handle component.

Equip and Test

Once crafted, place the shield in your off-hand slot (the second hand). Hold it up by sneaking or using your shield key. Test blocking by facing an enemy or taking damage. You'll notice the shield absorbs hits differently than vanilla shields—some reduce more damage, others provide knockback resistance or deal retaliatory damage depending on the shield type.

Experiment with Materials

Try crafting shields from different materials. Modded ores produce shields with varying defensive properties. Heavier materials generally offer better protection but may have different special effects.
