Set Up Your First JEI Index Upgrade

Getting Started

Before you can craft directly from your backpack, you need to install the JEI Index Upgrade into a Sophisticated Backpack.

Installation Steps

1. Obtain a Sophisticated Backpack — Equip it in your armor slot, offhand, or main hand. The mod works with any equipped backpack.

2. Locate the JEI Index Upgrade item — This is a craftable upgrade specific to this mod. Place it in your backpack's upgrade slot (usually accessed by right-clicking your backpack or opening its GUI).

3. Verify the upgrade is active — Once installed, the upgrade is ready to use. You don't need to restart the game.

4. Test at a crafting table — Open any crafting interface (crafting table, workbench, or compatible terminal). Look for the plus button in the JEI recipe display.

5. Click the plus button — When you click it, the mod will automatically pull ingredients from your equipped backpack into the crafting grid. If items are missing, it checks your normal inventory and connected storage networks.

Your backpack is now linked to recipe crafting. You're ready to craft without manual inventory management.
