Protect Your Base from Daylight Destruction
Build Underground or Use Roofing
As the apocalypse progresses, exposed blocks will catch fire and melt in daylight. The safest approach is to move your base underground or build thick roofs that block direct sunlight. Stone and other non-flammable blocks provide better protection than wood or wool, which ignite on Day 5+.
Create Shade Structures
If you want to keep surface operations, construct covered walkways and work areas using non-combustible blocks like stone, concrete, or dark oak wood (which resists fire longer). Overhangs at least 2-3 blocks tall will shield you and your builds from the worst effects.
Use the Sunscreen Effect
When you respawn in dangerous areas, you'll receive temporary Sunscreen protection. Use this window to relocate to safer ground or complete urgent tasks. Don't rely on it for long-term survival—it's meant as a brief buffer, not permanent defense.
Plan Your Layout Early
Before Day 3, identify which areas will become unsafe and relocate valuable farms, furnaces, and storage underground. Organic blocks like crops and mycelium are among the first casualties.
