Using Tents as Portable Shelter While Exploring Cold Biomes
Why Tents Beat a Bedroll
In snowy biomes, nightfall brings both mobs and freezing temperatures. A tent gives you an enclosed space you can drop anywhere, so you are never caught without shelter. Unlike building a dirt hut, a tent deploys in seconds and packs back up into your inventory, making it ideal for long expeditions where you keep moving.
A Practical Camping Routine
Carry one tent plus a bed and a stack of torches. When dusk approaches, find flat ground, place the tent, and step inside. Put your bed down in the interior and sleep to skip the night. Place torches just outside the entrance to keep hostile mobs from wandering in while you sort your inventory. Keep a furnace or campfire nearby for cooking the food you gathered during the day.
Managing the Cold
A tent shelters you from mobs but does not by itself stop freezing damage from the environment. Pair it with warm armor (leather or better), and stay near a light source. If your modpack includes temperature mechanics, treat the tent as your base of operations: sleep, eat, and warm up inside, then venture out again. When you are ready to move on, break the tent, collect your bed and torches, and continue exploring.
