How to Configure Smooth Boot to Speed Up Minecraft Startup

Finding the Config File

Smooth Boot generates its config file in your Minecraft instance's config folder after the first launch. Look for a file named after the mod (typically smoothboot.toml or similar). Open it with any plain text editor. If you use a modpack launcher, the config lives inside that instance's folder, not the global .minecraft directory.

Adjusting the Key Options

Inside the config you will find settings that control how the game handles its startup threads and loading behavior. The most impactful options relate to the number of threads used during boot and whether the mod applies its optimizations to the client, the integrated server, or both.

  • Set the thread-related values to match your CPU's logical core count rather than leaving them at defaults if you have a modern multi-core processor.
  • If you experience instability during loading, reduce the thread count instead of increasing it; more threads is not always faster.
  • Keep the mod's boot-stability toggles enabled unless a specific mod conflict forces you to disable them.

Applying and Testing

Save the file and launch the game. Time your startup from the launcher to the main menu both before and after your changes so you can confirm the effect. If startup becomes slower or crashes, revert to the previous values one setting at a time to isolate the cause. Config changes take effect on the next launch, so no in-game reload is needed.
