Measuring Before and After
To know if Smooth Boot is helping, you need a baseline. Launch the game with the mod disabled or its config at defaults and use a stopwatch from the moment you press Play in the launcher until the main menu appears. Record the time. Then enable your tuned config and repeat the measurement several times, since
startup time varies between runs.
What Smooth Boot Can and Cannot Fix
Smooth Boot optimizes the boot process itself, so it mainly affects the loading screen phase. It will not speed up world generation, chunk loading after you enter a world, or in-game frame rates. If your slow phase is after the main menu, this mod is not the right tool and you should look at other performance mods.
- Expect the biggest gains on machines with many CPU cores that were previously underused during loading.
- Gains are usually smaller on low-core systems, where there is little parallelism to exploit.
- A large modpack with heavy initialization work may still load slowly regardless of boot optimization.
Interpreting Your Results
Run each configuration at least three times and average the results, because a single launch can be misleading. If the difference is within normal run-to-run variation, the mod is not providing a meaningful benefit for your setup. If startup is consistently faster and stable, keep your tuned config.
