Setting Up a Perimeter Defense with Stakes and Wall Stakes

Choosing Your Trap Type

Stakes and wall stakes form the foundation of a defensive perimeter. Stakes are placed on the ground and damage mobs that walk into them, while wall stakes mount on vertical surfaces to protect doorways and passages. Wall stakes are ideal for narrow corridors where you want to funnel enemies into damage zones.

Building Your Defense Line

Start by identifying high-traffic mob routes around your base. Place stakes in a staggered pattern along ground-level approaches—solid lines are less effective than gaps that force mobs to bunch up. For walls and structures, install wall stakes at head height on both sides of entrances.

Layering Your Defenses

Combine stakes with other trap types for maximum effectiveness. Place slime traps behind stake lines to slow approaching mobs, giving you time to react. Stack multiple rows of stakes with small gaps between them to create a gauntlet effect.

Maintenance Tips

Stakes wear down over time as mobs trigger them. Check your perimeter regularly and replace damaged sections. Consider building your trap lines slightly away from your actual walls—this creates a buffer zone and makes repairs easier without exposing your base.
