What to Do When Your Grave Is Missing or You Cannot Reach It

The Grave Is Gone

If you return to your death spot and find no grave, a few things may have happened. The grave may have despawned after its configured timer expired, it may have been destroyed by an explosion or another player, or it may have been placed somewhere other than exactly where you expected. Check the config for the despawn time and protection settings.

You Cannot Find the Spot

Dying in a cave, the Nether, or far from home makes the grave hard to locate. Retrace your route carefully and note landmarks. If you have coordinates enabled, use them to navigate back precisely. Bring light so you can see the grave marker in dark areas.

The Grave Will Not Open

If the grave is there but will not open, confirm you are the owner — graves are usually locked to the player who died. If a key is required, make sure you are holding the Grave Key. If your inventory is full, clear slots and try again, since items cannot transfer into a full inventory.

Preventing Future Loss

Set a generous despawn timer in the config if you often take a while to recover. On multiplayer, keep owner-locking on. And try to note your death coordinates so the next recovery run is quick.
