How to Stop a Magnet from Pulling Items Using Demagnetization Coils

What Demagnetization Coils Do

Demagnetization Coils disable magnets in their vicinity. They are useful when you want to keep a magnet equipped but prevent it from grabbing items — for example, near a farm, an item sorter, or a villager trading hall where you do not want drops flying at you.

Placing a Coil

Craft a Basic or Advanced Demagnetization Coil and place it as a block near the area you want protected. The coil emits a field that turns off magnets inside its range. Position it so the field covers the spot where you stand or walk, but not the rest of your base if you still want pickup elsewhere.

Choosing Basic vs Advanced

The Advanced Demagnetization Coil typically has a larger or more configurable range than the Basic version. Use the Basic coil for small zones like a single farm plot, and the Advanced coil when you need to cover a larger room or a whole building.

Tips

  • Place the coil where you can see it so you remember why your magnet stopped working.
  • If your magnet suddenly stops pulling items, check for a nearby coil before assuming it is broken.
  • Combine coils with magnet settings: you can leave the magnet on and let the coil handle the off-switch automatically.
