How to View NBT Data of a Block, Entity, or Item with Silent Lib

Silent Lib adds the sl_nbt command, which prints the raw NBT (Named Binary Tag) data of whatever you point it at in a readable, formatted way. This is the main reason most players install Silent Lib on its own.

Running the command

Open chat and type /sl_nbt followed by a target selector or coordinates. The exact syntax depends on what you want to inspect:

  • For the entity you are looking at, use the entity-targeting form of the command.
  • For a block, provide its coordinates.
  • For the item in your hand, use the held-item form.

If you are unsure of the arguments, type /sl_nbt and press Tab — the command suggests valid subcommands and selectors as you type. This is the fastest way to learn the exact syntax without guessing.

Reading the output

Silent Lib formats the NBT into an indented, human-readable tree rather than one long line. Nested compound tags appear as { ... } and lists as [ ... ]. Look for the tag names you care about — for example, an item's display, Enchantments, or BlockEntityTag, or an entity's Health, Attributes, or Pos.

Because the output is chat-based, it can be long. Scroll up in chat, or copy it out if you need to compare values. This is invaluable for debugging datapacks, checking why a renamed item lost its name, or verifying what a modded block actually stores.
