How to Tell at a Glance Whether Your Shield Is Disabled

What the Overlay Means

Shield Statuses Mod tints your shield with a colored overlay that reflects its current state. When the shield is functioning, you see the enabled color; once it has been disabled, the overlay switches to the disabled color. The tint is drawn on top of the shield model, so you do not need to look at a HUD element or read any text — the shield itself tells you.

Reading It During a Fight

Raise your shield as normal. If you see the enabled tint, blocking will work. After an axe hit or enough sustained damage disables the shield, the tint changes and stays changed until the shield recovers. Watch for that switch rather than staring at your hotbar. In mob fights, an axe-wielding pillager or a vindicator is the usual cause of a sudden disable, so the color change doubles as a warning that you are exposed.

Reacting to the Disabled State

When the overlay shows disabled, stop relying on the shield: back away, swap to a different defensive option, or reposition until it recovers. If the color is hard to spot against your armor or resource pack, adjust it in the mod config so the disabled state is unmistakable.
