How to Configure Shield Statuses for PvP and Mob Combat
Choosing Colors for Fast Recognition
In combat you have split seconds to decide whether to keep blocking. Set the enabled color to something neutral and the disabled color to something you would never mistake for it — for example, a green-ish enabled tint and a red-ish disabled tint. Avoid two shades of the same hue, because under motion and particle effects they blur together.
Tuning for PvP
In player-versus-player fights, shield disabling is a core tactic, and both you and your opponent will be watching for it. A bright, obvious disabled color helps you notice the instant your guard drops so you can retreat or switch tactics. It also helps you confirm when an opponent's shield is down so you can commit to an attack. Keep the enabled color subtle so it does not distract you while you are actively blocking.
Tuning for Mob Combat
Against mobs, the main threats to your shield are axe-carrying enemies. Use a disabled color that contrasts with the terrain and mob textures you fight around most, such as caves or villages. If you frequently fight in dim light, a lighter disabled tint is easier to catch. Re-test after any config change by raising your shield, taking hits until it disables, and confirming the switch is instant and readable.
