How to Cross a Ravine or Gap Safely with Bridges
Planning the Crossing
Before you step onto a bridge over a drop, plan the route. Stand at the near edge and look across to pick your landing point. If the gap is wide, build the bridge in segments and walk forward as you place, rather than trying to place the whole span from one spot. The
Bridge Building Gun is ideal here because it lets you fire segments across the gap without leaning over the edge.
Staying Safe
Place a block or two of bridge first, then step onto it and continue. Never sprint along a half-finished bridge, since a missed segment means a long fall. If you are bridging over lava or the void, carry a water bucket or blocks to catch yourself, and consider building a temporary rail of solid blocks along one side. For very long crossings, build a
Rope Ladder down the far side so you have a safe way back up. When the bridge is done, you can widen it to two blocks for comfort, or leave it narrow to save Rope. Break the bridge later to recover the materials.
