Configure Shield Raise Time for Your Playstyle

Open the Configuration File

Locate your mod configuration folder (usually config/ in your Minecraft directory) and open responsive-shields.toml in a text editor.

Adjust the Raise Time Setting

Find the raise_time parameter. This value controls how many ticks your shield takes to fully raise after you right-click:

  • 0 ticks: Instant blocking. Maximum responsiveness, but may feel overpowered in PvP.
  • 1 tick: Nearly instant with minimal delay. Good for most players seeking responsive combat.
  • 2 ticks: Slight delay remains. Useful if you want to preserve some vanilla challenge or balance in multiplayer.

Save and Test

Save the file and reload your world or restart the client. Test your new shield response by equipping a shield and blocking incoming attacks. If the feel isn't right, return to the config file and try a different value.

Multiplayer Compatibility

Your configured raise time works even if other players haven't installed the mod, so you can use this in any server without requiring server-wide changes.
