How to Brush Reptiles and Collect Scutes
Finding and Preparing Your Brush
Craft a brush using materials available in early-game survival. Once you have it, head to warm biomes where reptiles spawn—swamps, jungles, savannas, rivers, and beaches are your best bets.
Brushing Technique
Approach a large reptile slowly to avoid startling it. Equip your brush and right-click on the reptile repeatedly. The brushing is safe and won't harm the animal. After several brushes, scutes will drop to the ground.
Different reptile types yield different scutes:
- Crocodiles (savannas, beaches) and Alligators (swamps) drop basic scutes
- Caimans (jungles) provide walking-speed scutes
- Gharials (rivers) drop rare trophy scutes
- Giant Tortoises (badlands, mushroom fields) yield heavy-duty scutes
Collecting Multiple Scutes
You can brush the same reptile multiple times over time as scutes regenerate. Collect enough scutes to craft the armor piece you need, then head to your crafting table. Each armor type requires a specific number of scutes combined with other materials.
