Making Minecraft Feel More Immersive by Removing the Selection Box

Why the Outline Breaks Immersion

The default block outline is a gameplay aid, not a natural part of the world. It constantly reminds you that you are looking through a targeting system rather than existing inside the environment. Removing it with Remove Mouseover Highlight lets your eye rest on the actual textures, lighting, and shapes of the terrain instead of a floating rectangle.

Getting the Most Out of It

1. Pair the mod with a resource pack or shader setup you already enjoy, since the cleaner view makes texture detail more noticeable.

2. Build or explore in first person rather than third person — the effect is strongest when your crosshair is the only targeting reference.

3. Use the mod during screenshot sessions or cinematic recording, where the outline would otherwise appear in every frame.

4. Try it while caving or exploring; without the box flickering over every block you pass, movement through tight spaces feels smoother.

Things to Keep in Mind

Some players rely on the outline to judge exactly which block a tool will affect, especially when mining diagonally or reaching through gaps. If you find yourself misplacing blocks, slow down slightly until your aim adjusts. The mod does not change any hitboxes, so precision is still fully possible — you simply have to trust your crosshair instead of the box.
