Understanding the Blue Lines and Storage Indicators

What the Blue Lines Mean

The Construction Stick changes the color of its placement preview lines to blue whenever it is sourcing blocks from your Refined Storage network. This is the primary at-a-glance indicator that the bridge is working. If you see blue, the stick is pulling from storage; if you see the normal color, it is not.

Why the Indicator Might Not Turn Blue

Several conditions prevent the stick from using the network:

  • The stick is not linked to a controller (see the linking guide).
  • You are out of range of the bound network.
  • The network is unpowered or the controller is broken.
  • The specific block you are trying to place is not stored in the network.

When any of these apply, the stick falls back to normal behavior and uses blocks from your inventory instead.

Using the Indicator While Building

Treat the line color as a live status readout. During a long build, glance at the lines periodically. A sudden switch away from blue tells you the network stopped supplying blocks, letting you pause and fix the problem before you waste time placing from a nearly empty inventory.

Combining With Other Feedback

The visual indicator is the main signal, but pairing it with a quick look at your network's storage terminal confirms whether stock is the issue versus range or power.
