Set Up a Toggle Switch with a Latch Gate
Creating On/Off Control Without Repeating Signals
The Latch gate holds its state—once activated, it stays on until you send a second signal to turn it off. This is ideal for toggle switches and state-based systems.
Latch Configuration
1. Place a Latch gate in your circuit
2. Connect your first signal source (button, lever, or sensor) to one input
3. Connect a second signal source to the other input—this will toggle the latch off
4. Connect the output to whatever you want to control (door, light, machine)
5. Test: First signal turns the system on, second signal turns it off
Practical Applications
- Paired buttons: Use two Large Buttons—one to activate, one to deactivate
- Sensor-based toggles: Combine with Sight Sensors for look-activated on/off systems
- State indicators: Connect a
Color Redstone Lamp to the output to show current state - Complex logic: Chain multiple Latches together for multi-stage activation sequences
Latches eliminate the need for complex redstone pulse detection and are much more compact than traditional toggle circuits.
