Making Item Sorters and Hoppers Work With Physics Drops

The Problem

Vanilla sorters rely on items floating in water streams or resting on hoppers. With physics enabled, items sink, bounce, and slide, so a design that worked before may clog or scatter drops.

Adapting Your Sorter

1. Use water to cushion falls. A one-block-deep water pool at the drop point slows items before they hit the hopper line, reducing bounce.

2. Widen your collection area. Physics items roll and slide further than vanilla items. Extend the floor of your collection chamber by a block or two on each side so nothing escapes.

3. Add a lip or wall. A single-block rim around the drop zone keeps sliding items from tumbling off the edge.

4. Point hoppers upward under the landing spot. Items that come to rest on a hopper get pulled in normally; the trick is making them rest there instead of sliding past.

5. Test with a single item type first. Drop one item, watch where it settles, then adjust the floor before scaling up.

Farm-Specific Tips

For mob farms, place the kill chamber directly above a solid floor with hoppers beneath. For crop farms, route drops into a central water channel that ends in a shallow pool over your hopper line.
