Troubleshooting Project Red Lights That Won't Turn On
Lights Not Emitting Light
If a Project Red light is placed but not glowing, check these common causes:
1. It's an inverted variant. Inverted lights are off when powered and on when unpowered (or the reverse). If you placed an inverted light and it's dark, it may be receiving a redstone signal. Remove the signal or use a normal variant instead.
2. Wrong block placed. Cage, Fallout, Fixture, Lantern, and Illumar Lamp all look different. Make sure you placed the block you intended.
3. Resource pack or shader issue. Some shaders and resource packs change how colored lights render. Try disabling shaders to confirm the light is actually working.
Inverted Lights Not Responding to Redstone
- Confirm the redstone signal is actually reaching the block. Red alloy wire must connect properly; a gap or a block in the way will break the circuit.
- Check that you are using the correct wire type. Project Red has multiple wire colors and types; only the red alloy wire carries redstone signals the way you expect.
- Make sure the lever or button is toggled on. A button only pulses briefly; use a lever for a persistent state.
Lights Won't Craft
- Verify you have the correct dye and Illumar amounts. Use JEI/REI to view the exact recipe.
- Some recipes require a specific crafting grid shape; a shapeless recipe won't work if the recipe is shaped.
Still Stuck
Check the FAQ section of the wiki and the Processes page for the Illumar crafting chain, since missing Illumar is the most common crafting failure.
