How to Craft and Use Illumar Lamps in Project Red Illumination
What Illumar Lamps Are
Illumar Lamps are the core light source of Project Red Illumination. They come in all sixteen dye colors and emit a clean, full-block glow. Unlike a plain torch, they are solid blocks you can place flush into a wall or ceiling, which makes them ideal for modern builds and hidden lighting.
Crafting Steps
1. Gather the base ingredients Project Red uses for its lighting: Illumar (the mod's glowing material) and the appropriate dye for the color you want.
2. Open a crafting table and combine the Illumar with the dye to produce the colored lamp. The exact grid layout matches the standard Project Red lamp recipe — check JEI/REI in-game to confirm the arrangement for your version.
3. Place the lamp where you want light. Right-click behavior is unchanged; it simply lights the area.
Inverted Variants
Each color also has an Inverted Illumar Lamp. The inverted version is controlled by redstone: it stays lit by default and turns off when powered, or vice versa depending on the variant. Use inverted lamps for redstone-controlled room lighting, indicator panels, or flickering effects in adventure maps. Pair them with a lever or pressure plate to toggle a whole ceiling of lamps at once.
Practical Tips
- Mix colors along a wall to create gradient lighting.
- Use inverted lamps as status indicators on machines.
- Because they are full blocks, they hide wiring behind them cleanly.
