Find and Use Upgrade Templates for Tool Progression

Locating Upgrade Templates

Upgrade templates are essential for advancing through gear tiers using the smithing table. They spawn naturally in specific structures throughout your world:

• Villages: Search blacksmith houses and tool shops
• Mineshafts: Found in loot chests throughout the structure
• Nether Fortresses: Located in treasure chests and fortress loot

Explore these structures thoroughly—templates may not appear in every chest, so check multiple locations.

Using Templates at the Smithing Table

Once you have a template, place it in a smithing table alongside:

1. Your current-tier tool or armor in the left slot

2. The upgrade template in the middle slot

3. An ingot of the target material (copper, rose, iron, or netherite) in the right slot

The smithing table will produce your upgraded tool, preserving enchantments and durability from the original item. This system lets you smoothly transition between progression tiers without losing progress.
