How to Start Tree Breeding and Create Your First Hybrid
Setting Up Your Breeding Area
Tree breeding in Productive Trees requires patience and space. Plant two different tree species several blocks apart in well-lit areas with adequate soil. Both trees need room to grow to maturity before pollination can occur. Ensure they receive sufficient light—most trees require direct sunlight or high light levels.
Cross-Pollinating Trees
Once both trees are fully grown, you can cross-pollinate them. The mod uses bees or wind mechanics to transfer pollen between compatible species. Position trees close enough for pollination to occur naturally, or use the mod's pollination tools if available. Check the tree's growth stage—only mature trees can produce viable pollen.
After successful pollination, saplings from the pollinated tree will carry hybrid genetics. Collect these saplings and plant them in a separate breeding area to grow your first hybrid tree.
Identifying Your Hybrid
Hybrid trees may display visual differences from their parent species—different leaf colors, wood textures, or growth patterns. Grow the hybrid to maturity to see its full characteristics and determine what resources it produces. Document successful crosses to plan future breeding experiments.
