Progressing Past Bone Tools to Stone

When You're Ready for Stone

Once you have a bone pickaxe and access to wood, you can begin mining stone and crafting stone tools—the next tier in your progression.

Steps to Reach Stone Tools

1. Use your bone pickaxe to mine stone blocks (found underground or on mountains).

2. Collect enough stone for your planned tools.

3. Craft a stone crafting table or use your existing one to create stone tools from the stone blocks.

4. Replace your bone tools with stone equivalents as you craft them.

Important Limitation

Stone tools cannot mine iron ore. You must craft an iron pickaxe before attempting to mine iron. This means you'll need to find iron ore, smelt it into ingots, and craft an iron pickaxe—stone pickaxes will not work on iron.

Progression Path

Bone → Stone → Iron → Diamond. Each tier requires the previous tier's tools to access the next material. Plan your mining accordingly and gather extra stone while you have access to it.
