Getting Your First Wood Without Stone Tools

Why You Can't Use Stone Tools

In Primitive Start Mod, stone tools cannot mine wood blocks—you must use a bone axe instead. This forces you to hunt animals before you can access the normal crafting progression.

Steps to Obtain Your First Wood

1. Hunt nearby animals to collect bones. Kill cattle, sheep, pigs, or chickens in your immediate area.

2. Gather sticks by breaking leaf blocks with your hands. Leaves drop sticks naturally when destroyed.

3. Craft a bone axe using your collected bones and sticks at a crafting table.

4. Use the bone axe to chop down trees and collect wood blocks.

5. Craft a crafting table from the wood you've obtained.

Alternative: Loot Structures

If hunting is difficult, search for naturally generated plank structures like village huts. These contain pre-made wooden planks that you can collect without needing to mine wood first. This can jumpstart your progression if you're in an area with few animals.

Once you have wood and a crafting table, you can progress to stone tools normally—though remember that stone tools still cannot mine iron ore.
