How to Fix Missing or Wrong Footstep Sounds on Certain Blocks
Sometimes a block plays the wrong sound, plays nothing, or uses a generic thud instead of a material-appropriate step. This usually means the mod has no mapping for that block, or another mod's block is not recognized.
Check the block and the config
First confirm the block actually has a material assigned. Walk on it in a flat test area, not on a slope or edge, since partial blocks and stairs can confuse surface detection. Then open the config and look for material mappings or a block-to-sound list. If the mod supports custom mappings, you can point an unrecognized block at an existing material group so it inherits that sound.
Modded blocks
Blocks added by other mods often fall back to a default because Presence Footsteps does not know their material. If the config allows adding entries, register those block IDs to a suitable material. If it does not, the fallback sound is expected behavior and cannot be changed without mod support.
When sounds are missing entirely
If a block is silent, check that the relevant sound category is not at zero and that no resource pack has replaced or removed the footstep
sounds. A resource pack that strips audio can make the mod appear broken when it is only missing assets. Test with the pack disabled to confirm.
