How to Change Footstep Volume and Mute Footsteps in Presence Footsteps
Presence Footsteps routes movement audio through its own sound system, so the vanilla volume sliders do not always control it the way you expect. If footsteps are too loud, too quiet, or you want them gone entirely, you have a few levers to pull.
Adjusting the mod's own volume
Open the mod's config screen (usually reachable from the mod list or a config menu keybind) and look for volume or gain options. Presence Footsteps typically exposes a master footstep volume plus separate handling for
things like the player's own steps versus other entities. Lower the master value first, then fine-tune individual categories if the screen offers them. Changes usually apply live, so walk across a few blocks to test before closing.
Muting footsteps completely
If you want silence, set the footstep volume to zero in the config rather than muting the game. Muting the whole game also kills music, mobs, and UI clicks. Some versions also let you disable specific sound categories, such as only your own footsteps while keeping other players' audible, which is useful on servers.
If nothing changes
Confirm you edited the right config file for the instance you are actually launching, and that no other audio mod is overriding footstep
sounds. Reload or restart if the config screen does not apply changes immediately.
