How to Customize Creative Tabs and Move GUI Slots with Polytone

Polytone can rearrange the creative inventory and reposition slots inside GUIs, which is mainly useful for modpack authors who want a cleaner interface.

Customizing Creative Tabs

You can create your own creative tab, give it an icon, a name, and a list of items to contain. You can also add items into existing tabs or reorder how they appear. This lets you group a mod's items together instead of scattering them across vanilla categories. Define the tab, then list the item IDs it should hold in the order you want them shown.

Moving GUI Slots

Polytone supports offsetting slots within a GUI screen. You specify which screen and which slot, then give it a new position. This is typically used to make room for added GUI elements or to fix overlapping slots when several mods touch the same screen.

Adding GUI Elements

Beyond moving slots, you can add simple GUI elements such as text or icons to a screen. Combine this with slot offsets to build a custom-looking interface without writing Java.

Verifying the Layout

Open the creative menu and the affected GUI in-game after reloading. Check that no slots overlap and that your custom tab appears where expected. Small coordinate mistakes are the usual cause of a slot landing off-screen, so adjust in small increments.
