How to Show Your Own Nametag in Poly Nametag Mod
The Problem
Normally Minecraft hides your own nametag from you — you only see other players' names. Poly Nametag Mod adds an option to display your own nametag, which is useful for previewing how your name, height offset, background, and shadow settings actually look before other players see them.
Enabling It
Open the mod's settings screen. Access it through Mod Menu (Fabric/Quilt), the mods list (Forge/NeoForge), or the mod's own keybind if one is registered. Find the nametag display section and look for a toggle such as "Show Own Nametag" or "Render Self Nametag." Switch it on. Apply the change and close the menu. You should now see your name floating above your head in third-person view (press F5 to cycle camera modes) and, depending on the mod's implementation, possibly in first-person as well.
Using It to Preview Your Setup
With your own tag visible, you can now test the other appearance options in real time. Adjust the height offset and watch the tag move. Toggle the background and pick a color, then check contrast against different terrain. Turn the text shadow on and off to compare readability. This is the fastest way to dial in a look without recruiting a second player. Once you're happy, you can leave the option on or turn it off if the tag distracts you during normal play.
Notes
- This is a client-side display option; it does not change what others see.
- Third-person view (F5) is the easiest way to inspect the result.
