Which Mobs Can You Pat (and Which You Cannot)

Living Mobs Only

The Pat Pat Mod works exclusively on living mobs. That means anything with a health bar and a mob AI: passive animals, neutral mobs, hostile mobs, villagers, and most modded creatures that extend the standard living entity class.

Examples that work:

  • Farm animals such as cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens
  • Villagers and wandering traders
  • Wolves, cats, and other tamable pets
  • Hostile mobs like zombies, skeletons, and creepers
  • Most modded living creatures

What Does Not Work

Entities that are not living mobs cannot be patted, no matter how close you stand or how long you crouch. This includes:

  • Armor stands
  • Boats and minecarts
  • Item frames and paintings
  • Dropped items
  • Any purely decorative or block-like entity

Practical Notes

Because the check is based on the entity type rather than a whitelist, you generally do not need to worry about whether a specific mob is "supported." If it is alive and has AI, crouch and right-click it. If it is an object or a vehicle, the pat will simply not fire. This also means newly added modded mobs usually work without any extra setup, since they are living entities too.
