How to Pat a Mob in Pat Pat Mod
The Basic Pat
Patting a mob is a single, deliberate action. Walk up close to any living mob — cows, pigs, villagers, wolves, even hostile mobs like zombies work — until you are within arm's reach. Then hold your crouch key (default: Shift) and press your right mouse button while still crouched. You do not need to be holding any item, and you do not need an empty hand slot selected for the pat to register.
What You Should See
When the pat succeeds, a hand animation appears above the mob's head, showing that the interaction went through. This is your confirmation that the pat landed. If nothing appears, you are most likely too far away, not crouched, or aiming at something that is not a living mob.
Common Mistakes
- Standing instead of crouching. The pat only triggers while crouched. If you right-click normally you will just interact with the mob the vanilla way (trading, breeding, mounting, and so on).
- Targeting non-living things. Armor stands, boats, minecarts, and item frames are not living mobs and cannot be patted.
- Clicking through a block. Make sure your crosshair is actually on the mob, not on a fence or wall between you and it.
Once you get the crouch-and-click rhythm down, you can pat any mob you meet.
