Getting Started with Your Kayak

Craft a kayak using orange and black wool, then right-click on water to place it. Right-click the kayak to board and ensure you're holding a paddle.

To move, hold your paddle and look left or right to choose your paddling side. Hold W and left-click to paddle forward, or hold S and left-click to paddle backward. While already moving, you can steer by left-clicking without pressing movement keys.

To leave the kayak, sneak and exit normally. To carry your boat over land, sneak and right-click it to pick it up, then sneak and right-click again to place it down when you reach the next water body. This lets you portage between separate rivers and waterways.
