How to Vein Mine Without Breaking Your Pickaxe

Understand What Drains Durability

Vein mining does not cost a single durability point. Every ore block in the connected vein is treated as if you mined it normally, so a vein of twenty ores consumes roughly twenty points of durability. On a low-durability pickaxe, one large vein can finish the tool mid-swing.

Practical Steps

1. Before crouch-mining a big vein, check your pickaxe's remaining durability bar. If it looks low, swap to a fresh tool first.

2. Carry a spare pickaxe or the materials to repair yours. A vein that would normally take a minute of mining can now empty a tool in one action.

3. If you only need a few ores, do not sneak. Break the ore normally and the vein stays intact, letting you cherry-pick blocks and preserve durability.

4. When mining in bulk, use a pickaxe with a strong durability enchantment or repair it between veins rather than pushing it to zero.

5. Keep an eye on the durability bar during long mining sessions. Because the whole vein is consumed instantly, you get no warning ticks as the tool wears down.

Treat durability like a resource you spend per vein, not per swing, and you will stop losing pickaxes to surprise vein sizes.
