How to Use Silk Touch and Fortune Correctly with Vein Mining

Silk Touch Works, Fortune Does Not

The mod supports Silk Touch: crouch-mining a vein with a Silk Touch pickaxe gives you the ore blocks themselves, which is ideal for storage or moving ores. Fortune is a different story. Vein mining is disabled automatically when a Fortune pickaxe is in use, so you cannot combine the two.

What to Do

1. For collecting raw ore blocks, enchant a pickaxe with Silk Touch and crouch-mine as usual. The whole connected vein drops as blocks.

2. For maximum drops per ore, use a Fortune pickaxe and mine normally, block by block. Vein mining will not trigger, so you keep full Fortune bonuses.

3. Do not expect Fortune to apply to a vein-mined batch. If you crouch with a Fortune tool, the vein behavior simply will not fire.

4. Plan your tools: carry one Silk Touch pickaxe for bulk block collection and one Fortune pickaxe for maximizing yield on valuable ores.

5. Remember that Silk Touch vein mining still consumes durability per block, so the same durability advice applies.

Choose the tool based on whether you want blocks or maximum drops, and the mod will behave predictably.
