Getting Started with Hammers and Excavators

Hammers and excavators are large-area tools that break blocks in a 3×3 pattern instead of one at a time. Craft them using the same materials as regular Minecraft tools: wood, stone, iron, or netherite.

Use a hammer for mining ore and hard blocks. Use an excavator for digging dirt, sand, and soil. Each tool tier matches the durability and speed of its material—wooden versions are fastest but break easily, while netherite tools are slowest but nearly unbreakable.

Because these tools affect a 3×3 area, they're ideal for quickly clearing large spaces or harvesting multiple ore blocks at once. Choose your tool material based on how long you want it to last and what you're gathering.
