How to Troubleshoot Tooltips That Do Not Change

If your custom styles are not showing up, the cause is almost always a resource pack or mapping problem. Work through these checks in order.

Verify the Pack Is Loaded

Open the resource packs screen and confirm your pack is enabled and sits above the default. A pack that is enabled but placed below another pack with conflicting files may be overridden. Also confirm pack.mcmeta has a valid pack format for your game version — an invalid format makes Minecraft silently ignore the pack.

Check File Paths and Names

Resource packs are case-sensitive on many systems. Confirm the namespace folder, style folder, and file names match exactly what the mod expects. A single wrong character means the style is never found. Compare against the mod's example pack if one is provided.

Confirm the Item Mapping

Even a perfect style does nothing if no item points to it. Re-check that the item you are hovering is actually assigned to your style ID. Test with a style applied to a simple, common item first to isolate whether the problem is the style or the mapping.

Reload and Read Logs

Press F3+T to reload resources after every change. If tooltips still do not update, check the game log for errors mentioning your pack or the mod — parse failures and missing files are usually reported there with the exact path that failed.
