How to Successfully Mug a Villager Without Getting Caught

Preparation and Setup

Equip a recognized weapon—this opens the crime menu when you interact with a villager. Check your Heat level first; a low Heat means fewer guards are actively watching. Scout the target villager's location and identify escape routes away from other settlements and guard posts.

Executing the Mug

Approach your target when they are isolated and away from witnesses. Open the crime menu by interacting with them while holding your weapon, then select the mugging option. The villager will surrender their personal purse contents—the payout depends on their wealth and profession.

Staying Undetected

Immediately leave the area and move out of line of sight from any other villagers or guards. Witnesses who see the crime will flee and alert nearby authorities, raising your Heat level. The farther you travel from the scene before being spotted, the harder it is for guards to connect you to the crime. If Heat rises significantly, consider hiding in a remote location until patrols lose interest or your Heat naturally decreases over time.
