Understanding Heat Mechanics

Heat measures active guard attention in your current area. It rises when witnesses report crimes or guards spot you committing illegal acts. High Heat means more frequent patrols and confrontations. Check your Heat level regularly through the mod's UI.

Immediate Heat Reduction

Leave the settlement entirely and travel to a distant location. Guards operate on local line-of-sight detection, so distance breaks their awareness. Stay away from the area for an extended period—Heat naturally decreases over time when you're not actively committing crimes or being spotted.

Long-Term Heat Management

Commit fewer crimes in the same settlement to avoid building a reputation. Vary your targets and locations across multiple villages. If Heat becomes critical, surrender to guards and serve your sentence; completing jail time resets some Heat and gives authorities a sense of closure. Alternatively, perform good deeds and apologize to villagers to gradually repair your standing and reduce suspicion.
