Understanding Jail Mechanics

When you surrender to guards or are captured, you're escorted to the village jail cell. Your sentence duration is measured in online playtime—you must remain logged in (or accumulate time across sessions) to serve it. Sentences persist even if you log out or die, so you cannot simply avoid the consequence.

Serving Your Time

Some settlements may allow early release through good behavior or additional payments.

Post-Release Recovery

After release, your Karma improves slightly and Heat decreases. Use this window to apologize to affected villagers and perform good deeds—help with tasks, trade fairly, or assist the community. Rebuilding trust takes time but reduces future guard suspicion. Avoid the same settlement for a while to let tensions cool before resuming criminal activity.
