How to Gather and Use Decorative Blocks and Special Soils

Types of Decorative Blocks Available

Naturalist Biomes adds nearly two hundred blocks beyond wood sets. These include wild plants (cattails, waterlilies, berry bushes), special soils (clay, rich earth, dry grasses), unique stone types, and layered snow. Each biome features blocks matching its theme—bluebells and fallen leaves in Maple Forest, frost-covered plants in Frozen Pine, and floating waterlilies in Wetlands.

Harvesting Decorative Blocks

Break plants and soil blocks with any tool, though shovels work fastest on soil. Collect stone variants by mining with a pickaxe. Many decorative blocks drop themselves when broken, allowing you to relocate them to your build. Some plants may require shears for efficient harvesting.

Building Applications

Use special soils to create varied terrain and landscaping. Layer different stone types for textured walls and paths. Combine plants like cattails and waterlilies to create custom wetland gardens. Snow layers stack to create custom snow depth effects beyond vanilla Minecraft. Mix blocks from multiple biomes to create unique color palettes and themed builds.

Organization Tip

Store decorative blocks in organized chests by biome or color to streamline building projects.
