Using Bonemeal on Moss With a Block Directly Above
The Problem the Mod Solves
Normally, if any block occupies the space directly above a moss block, bonemeal does nothing useful — the game's growth logic treats the moss as blocked. Moss Fix changes this so bonemeal still triggers spreading and vegetation growth even in a one-block-tall gap.
Step-by-Step
1. Find or create a moss block with exactly one block of air above it, then place a block in that air space (glass, slab, chest, or any block you want as a ceiling).
2. Hold bonemeal and use it on the moss block.
3. The moss should now consume the bonemeal and attempt to spread to adjacent blocks and grow plants, instead of silently failing.
4. If nothing happens, confirm the moss has valid neighboring blocks to spread onto — moss needs somewhere to go.
Tips
- Keep the surrounding area clear of full solid blocks if you want maximum spread.
- Combine this with the transparent-block behavior to build layered moss under glass floors.
- Bonemeal is still consumed per use, so bring a stack when expanding large areas.
