Different tool materials have vastly different durability ratings. Understanding these helps you choose the right tool for the job.

Comparing Tool Materials

The most durable tools available are:

• Ender and Emerald tools: 1859 durability — exceptional for long mining sessions
• Obsidian tools: 1337 durability — excellent for tough blocks
• Nether tools: 280 durability — solid mid-tier choice
• Prismarine tools: 265 durability — comparable to Nether

For Hammers and Excavators specifically, durability is multiplied by 7, making even moderate-durability materials last extremely long.

Avoid Paper tools (13 durability) for serious mining — they break almost instantly and have a 10% chance to damage you per use. Use them only for novelty or specific challenges. If you need reliable, long-lasting tools for sustained mining operations, craft Ender or Emerald variants for maximum efficiency.
