How to Change the Color of Your Modern Crosshair

The Modern Crosshair pack ships with a fixed crosshair image, so recoloring it means editing the texture file directly rather than toggling a setting. This is the standard approach for resource packs and works in both vanilla and modded setups.

Locate and Open the Crosshair Texture

First, find the pack in your resource packs folder and open it like a normal archive. Navigate into the assets folder, then into the minecraft textures gui folder. The file you want is the crosshair image. Extract it somewhere you can edit it.

Recolor and Repack

Open the image in any pixel editor that supports transparency. Keep the canvas size and pixel layout exactly as-is; only change the RGB values of the visible pixels. If you want a colored outline, paint those pixels while leaving the transparent background untouched. Save as a PNG with the same filename.

Put the edited file back into the same path inside the pack, replacing the original. Re-enable the pack or press the reload key so Minecraft re-reads textures. If the crosshair disappears, you likely flattened the alpha channel or changed the dimensions, so undo those changes and try again.

Tips

Keep a backup of the original PNG so you can restore the default look. Very bright colors can wash out against snow or sky, so darker or outlined colors tend to stay readable.
