How to Give Mobs Potion Effects Like Strength or Slowness
Adding Effects to a Mob
Potion effects are one of the easiest ways to make a mob feel different without touching its base stats. You attach an effect entry to the mob's property block, then choose the effect, its amplifier, and whether it is ambient or shows particles.
Step by Step
1. Open the config entry for the mob you want to buff or debuff.
2. Add an effects section. Inside it, list each effect you want the mob to spawn with.
3. For each effect, set the effect name (for example strength, slowness, regeneration, fire resistance), the amplifier level, and the duration. Use a very long or infinite duration if you want it permanent.
4. If the mod supports it, you can also gate effects behind a random chance so only some spawns get them.
5. Save and reload.
Practical Uses
Give a rare spawn strength and speed to create a mini-boss. Give cave spiders slowness so they are less punishing. Give skeletons fire resistance so lava does not kill them. Test by spawning the mob and watching its particle trail or checking with a command that lists active effects.
