Detect What Sounds Are Playing Based on Your Location

Understanding MAtmos Location Detection

MAtmos automatically changes which sounds play based on where you are and what surrounds you. Learning to recognize these zones helps you understand what the mod is doing.

How Location Detection Works

MAtmos analyzes your surroundings in three main categories:

  • Outdoors: Open sky above you. You'll hear wind, birds, and weather sounds.
  • Indoors: Enclosed spaces like houses or buildings. Sounds become muffled and intimate.
  • Caves: Deep underground areas. You'll hear dripping water, echoes, and deep cave ambience.

Testing Location Detection

1. Stand outside in an open area and listen for wind and bird calls

2. Enter a building and notice how sounds become quieter and more enclosed

3. Descend into a cave system and hear the shift to underground ambience

The mod continuously scans your environment, so sounds change smoothly as you move between these zones. If you're standing near a lava lake, you may also hear rumbling sounds specific to that hazard. This dynamic audio creates immersion without requiring you to do anything—just explore normally.
