How to Switch Between Stone and Deepslate Variants Using the Stonecutter
Converting Between Base, Polished, and Cobbled Forms
The Master Cutter lets you move freely between the variants of the same material. That means you can turn polished blocks back into their base form, or convert stone and deepslate into cobbled versions and their direct derivatives, without a crafting table or furnace.
1. Open the stonecutter and insert the block you currently have.
2. Look through the recipe list for the variant you want.
3. Select it. The cutter returns the converted block.
For example, if you have a stack of polished deepslate but need plain deepslate for a build, drop the polished blocks in and pick the base variant. The same logic applies going the other direction, and to cobbled forms of stone and deepslate.
Practical Uses
This is most useful when you have mined a lot of one variant and need another for a specific recipe or texture. Instead of storing five separate chests for every stone type, keep one and convert on demand. It also helps when a build calls for cobbled deepslate but your mine produced only regular deepslate, or vice versa.
Because the conversion happens in the stonecutter, you do not need to smelt or re-craft anything. Just feed blocks in, pick the output, and repeat until your stock matches what the build needs.
