How to Cut Logs and Wood into Planks, Stairs, and Other Building Blocks

Turning a Single Log into a Full Building Set

Put any log, wood, stem, or hyphae into the stonecutter and you get a menu of wood products instead of just planks. This works for every wood type, and stripped logs and stripped wood work too, so you never have to craft planks by hand again.

1. Place a stonecutter and open it.

2. Put one log (or wood/stem/hyphae) in the input slot.

3. Scroll the recipe list. You will see planks, slabs, stairs, fences, fence gates, doors, trapdoors, buttons, pressure plates, and signs.

4. Click the item you want. The cutter outputs the correct amount for one log automatically.

Why This Beats a Crafting Table

Normally you craft planks, then re-craft them into stairs or slabs, losing material at each step. The stonecutter skips all of that: one log in, finished shape out, with no wasted planks. It also gives you direct access to signs, doors, and trapdoors from the log itself.

If you want the stripped version of a log, the cutter can produce that too, so you can strip wood without hunting for an axe. Keep a stack of logs next to your stonecutter and you effectively have a one-block lumber mill for every wood type in the game.
