How to Reload Particles After Editing JSON Files

Why Reload Matters

Magic Particles Mod loads its JSON definitions when the server starts. If you edit a file while the server is running, the changes will not take effect until you reload. The /mp reload command re-reads all particle files and message files without requiring a full server restart, which is essential when you are iterating on a design.

Reloading Safely

1. Finish editing and saving your JSON file. Make sure the syntax is valid — trailing commas and unquoted keys are common mistakes.

2. In-game or from the server console, run /mp reload.

3. Watch the chat or console output. A successful reload usually confirms how many particles were loaded. If a file failed, the mod typically reports which one and why.

4. Run /mp to verify your new or edited particle now appears in the list.

5. Test it with /mp set <id>.

Troubleshooting

If your particle does not appear after reloading, the file likely has a JSON error. Open it in a text editor with syntax highlighting and check brackets, commas, and quotation marks. Also confirm the file has the correct extension and sits in the right folder. Fix the issue, save, and run /mp reload again. Players who already had an effect active may need to re-run /mp set if you changed its ID.
